In our world, inspiration comes from many places: passionate home cooks, chefs, farmers and producers of extraordinary products. Twenty years ago there were a mere handful of cheese-making artisans in this country, two of them being the iconic Maytag Blue and Laura Chenel whom we’ve happily supported over the past two decades. America’s love affair with cheese has blossomed since then, and I was so delighted last month on the set of “Your Life A-Z” to finally meet a great champion of American cheese, Laura Werlin. While not a cheese-maker herself, through her books The New American Cheese and most recently Cheese Essentials, she has done more to promote this exquisite craft than anyone I know.
We have always been proud to serve the magical cheeses from Cypress Grove, and now have added “Le Petit Dejeuner” from the Marin French Cheese Co. in Petaluma to our menu. You will have to taste this one for yourself; creamy and dreamy with just the right amount of bite. Our first Monday Night Chef’s Table in February features a very fine beverage, Belvedere Vodka. Claire Smith, the International Communications Manager for Belvedere and one of the most respected authorities on vodka in Europe, will lead us through the tasting. She currently resides in London, and we were fortunate to lure her to ZuZu during one of her travels to the US. Check out our vodka-friendly menu below. On February 25, we will be taking a tour of California’s Central Coast with wine guru extraordinaire Pat Jasmin. We We’ll be sampling vino from award-winning wineries from Monterey to Santa Barbara: Byron, Carmel Road, Kinton and Cambria. Join us as we look outside the Napa / Sonoma box and discover what this incredible region has to offer.
